About St. Peter’s

A Welcoming Community Celebrating God’s Boundless Love

At St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, we believe God’s love is expansive, generous, and meant to be shared.

For more than 250 years, St. Peter’s has been part of the Cheshire community—a place where people gather to worship, ask questions, build relationships, serve others, and grow in faith. We are grateful for our foundation and we are a community continually looking forward, seeking new ways to live out God’s love in our church, our community, and our world.

Open doors. Open arms. Open hearts. That is the kind of church we strive to be.

You Are Welcome Here

We are an open and affirming Episcopal church, welcoming people of every race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, ability, family structure, and background.

Whether you have been part of a church your entire life, are returning after time away, are exploring faith for the first time, or aren’t quite sure what you believe, there is a place for you here.

You do not need to have everything figured out. Come as you are. Bring your questions, your experiences, your gifts, and your whole self.

What Matters to Us

Growing in faith.
We gather around God’s table to worship, pray, learn, and grow together. We believe faith is a lifelong journey, strengthened through Scripture, worship, conversation, music, and relationships with one another.

Welcoming and including all.
We believe every person is a beloved child of God. We seek to create a church where people are known, valued, respected, and able to participate fully in the life of our community.

Putting faith into action.
Our faith calls us beyond the walls of our church. We serve our neighbors, support people in need, build partnerships throughout Cheshire and beyond, and work toward a more just and compassionate world. St. Peter’s has a long tradition of outreach and engagement around social, racial, and environmental justice.

Caring for God’s creation.
We believe caring for the Earth is part of our responsibility as people of faith. We seek to be thoughtful stewards of God’s creation through our sustainability and environmental practices, our church grounds and facilities, our community partnerships, and opportunities to learn and act together.

Making room for children and young people.
Children and youth are not simply the future of our church—they are an important part of our church today. We want young people to feel understood, included, and valued and to have meaningful opportunities to worship, learn, serve, ask questions, and lead.

Building community.
We believe church should be a place where people genuinely enjoy being together. From worship and fellowship to our Community Pumpkin Patch, Nearly New Boutique, music, service projects, community events, and simple conversations over coffee, we value the relationships that connect us to one another and to the wider Cheshire community.

Rooted in Cheshire, Looking Forward

St. Peter’s has stood in the heart of Cheshire for generations. Our historic church building itself tells a story of community: its bricks were purchased by parishioners and hauled by horse and wagon from North Haven. Today, we see ourselves as stewards not only of this beautiful building, but of a legacy of generosity, faith, and community engagement.

We also believe that being faithful means continuing to grow. We are always learning how to welcome more fully, serve more effectively, care more intentionally for creation, and respond to the needs of our neighbors.
