Meet The Rev. Sandy Stayner
On her life-long journey with Christ, Sandy has lived in a many different communities – from The Isle of Cumbrae, a small Scottish Island in the Clyde; to Aliquippa, a dying steel town outside Pittsburgh; to Berkeley Divinity School at Yale as a divinity school student; to 10 years in prosperous Greenwich CT; then back to Berkeley as Associate Dean before finally landing at St. Peter’s in Cheshire X years ago.
As a young adult Sandy lived in a small Anglican community called the Community of Celebration. Members lived alongside the poor and outcast and developed musical resources to help the church integrate modern forms of worship music with more traditional. A folk singer and guitarist, Sandy has written many folk songs for children and adults to be used in blended worship. She traveled around the world with a small group of musicians and artists from the community sharing and teaching about blended worship.
Asked what she most likes about ordained ministry, Sandy is clear. It’s the opportunity to journey with her parishioners in times of joy and times of sorrow. Her work as a priest is to help people see and experience God’s grace in their lives even when – especially when – difficulties arise.
Sandy loves being part of the changing, growing St. Peter’s faith community. She is passionate about building a community that welcomes all kinds of people: recognizing and honoring the God’s presence in all people – young, old and in between; creating a spiritual home where children grow up with grace and the elderly grow old with dignity; a place where we share our lives and unique journeys in and toward God; and – together – we live out God’s call to his people to work for justice and peace, respecting the dignity of every human being.
