Meet Matthew Harrison

Matthew Harrison
Minister of Music

Matthew, often called Matt, holds degrees from James Madison University and The New England Conservatory. He studied with Steinway Artist, Eric Ruple, Canadian baritone, Michael Meraw, and diction expert, John Moriarty.

Matt directs the choirs at Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, CT. He has conducted honor choirs in both Virginia and Connecticut, and has accompanied numerous honor choirs in both states (playing four hands for the 2018 NAfME (National Association for Music Education) National Choir and the Connecticut All-State Treble Choir). Matt spent time as an actor prior to his teaching engagements and joined the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) touring to Atlantic City and the Garde Arts Center in New London, CT.

An active recitalist, Matt is in demand as both an accompanist and a tenor, singing with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Christ Church Choir in their annual Messiah (HWV 56) performance at Woolsey Hall in 2017 in addition to Yale M.M. Recital Choirs. Matt also serves as Anne Tofflemire’s (Yale University) assistant at The Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, teaching and performing cabaret music. In the summers, he directs and music directs the Madison Beach Club Follies.

Matt is proud to be the first choral composer to hold an artist-in-residency position with our National Park Service, serving as the Artist in Residence at Glacier National Park in June of 2018.

Matt and his partner Maggie live in Hamden with their French Bulldog Claude and sophisticated farm cat Bijoux.
