This Sunday will be a service of Spiritual Eucharist, although no one will receive the sacrament. After consecrating (blessing) the bread and wine, we will say a prayer together that is from St. Augustine’s prayer book.
Because there have been many times throughout history where people were unable to receive the sacrament due to social turmoil or illness, there is provision in the Book of Common Prayer for persons to receive all the benefits of Communion, even though the Sacrament is not received with the mouth.
