Meet Dr. Stuart Paul Duncan

Dr. Stuart Paul Duncan harks from the South-East of England. While playing organ and conducting choirs for approximately twenty years, Stuart has also completed a Doctorate in music composition from Cornell University and a PhD in music theory from Yale University. After spending some time teaching as an adjunct professor at UConn and publishing multiple papers on the topic of rhythm and meter in the music of Benjamin Britten, Stuart, when not running the choirs at St. Peter’s, is the Director for New Faculty and Teaching Assistant Development at UConn for their Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Currently, Stuart is publishing a book on Music Education in Prisons and is researching into the effect of “gamification” in educational pedagogy. At St. Peter’s, Stuart steers the chorister and choir programs and develops educational, spiritual, and musical opportunities for its singers, including a recent trip to sing with a massed choir conducted by Eric Whitacre and the choirs recent Carnegie Hall debut.
